The Baltimore Public Works Museum
is housed in the historic and still
functioning Eastern Avenue Pumping
Station. It is America’s only
museum dedicated to the “surprisingly
interesting” infrastructure
that facilitates the basic public
services on which urban life depends.
A visit to the
Museum takes you behind the scenes
to learn the fascinating story
of how public works services
shape a modern city and its environment – the
systems that give you clean water,
sewage treatment, curb side trash
removal, well-lit, tree lined
streets, and sturdy bridges and
tunnels. Exhibits highlight historic
photographs, video presentations
and many interactive computer
challenges. The not to be missed “Streetscape
Exhibit” recreates public
amenities above and below our
streets using a life-size outdoor
model for kids of all ages to
explore….and all just steps
away from the center of the world
famous Inner Harbor.
