Baltimore Public Works Museum programs strive
to cultivate an understanding of public works history
and how it relates to today’s public projects
and services effecting and enhancing our everyday
lives. Whether you choose to visit the Museum,
attend one of our special events or participate
in one of our community outreach activities there
is something challenging and fun for everyone.
Educational
Tour Programs...
Visit
& Learn: Learn
how many gallons of drinking
water are distributed each
day. Discover how many miles
of city streets are maintained.
Guess how much trash is removed
daily and the importance of
recycling. Uncover public works
history and how it relates
to today’s public projects
and services affecting and
enhancing our everyday lives
by a visit to the Museum where
there is something challenging
and fun for everyone.
Tour & Learn:
Tour
Programsare
offered to groups as part of our
regular schedule and last approximately
1 hour. If the age/grade level of
your group or area of interest varies,
our Education Department is happy
to tailor a tour that meets your
needs.* All tours, except “Water
Works!”, are
available 6 days a week.
Baltimore:
Then and Now: Perfect
for 3rd - 8th grade students, this program
offers a unique overview of the history
of public works as well as a depiction
of the modern day services they represent.
Fun and interactive! Games and scavenger
hunt if time permits.
Water
Works! Curriculum Tour: Students
are offered a special Docent’s
presentation, participate in
a water testing experiment, view
an interesting public works history
video and so much more.
Prior
to your Water Works Tour, teachers
may request our Teacher
Packet with lesson
plans which gives suggested pre- and post-visit
activities that build upon the educational
experience given during the Museum tour.
Available M-F only.
Summer
Camp Groups: Cool camp
fun! Similar to the school tour experience,
summer camp groups may also utilize the
picnic area adjacent to the Streetscape
Exhibit for a leisurely lunch and hands
on activities (weather permitting).
Senior
Groups: Relive
your childhood experiences! Seniors are welcome
to visit as part of daily enrichment programs
and share the rich history of the past plus
learn about the future of the city!
Teachers: Teachers
can visit the Museum FREE
throughout the year and utilize any of our available resources.
Prepare environmental, historical subjects
and conservation lesson plans with our resources!

Special Events...
Throughout
the year the Museum is host to a
variety of fun and educational special
events and community outreach activities.
Here are a few annual events to watch
for, so mark your calendar and come
join in.
“ Heavy
Metal: Big Truck Day”: Heavy
Metal takes on new meaning when the super
BIG trucks of Baltimore’s fleet
roll up to the Museum for a day of discovery.
Come for a day of FREE fun-filled activities
which includes the Truck Trail Game--an
opportunity to sit in, explore and learn
about all kind of cool trucks, join in
Maryland Public Television’s Bob
the Vid-Tech show and other creative
activities. Saturday,
October 3, 2009 from 10am to 2pm Rain or Shine.
Community
Activities/Festivals...
ARTSCAPE: Located
in the Kid’s Craft Area at this annual
festival, kids of all ages can use their creativity
to make ‘beautiful birds’ from recycled
materials easily found around the home. All materials
needed are supplied for this FREE take home piece
of art. Make more art, not trash!

BALTIMORE
BOOK FESTIVAL: The
history of public works is fascinating
and yours to translate into a fanciful
mask for storytelling. Decorate your
mask with all kinds of appropriately
interesting recycled materials. Come
join in the FREE for ALL fun the last
weekend in September from noon to 5 p.m.
at the Kid’s Activity Area adjacent
to the Washington Monument. September

BLACK
HISTORY MONTH:Each
year, the museum is pleased
to reach out to the community
with a special event commemorating
Black History Month. We offer
a unique approach to entertain,
educate and inform visitors.
Among our most popular programming

of “Griot Storytelling” as
